Labor Day Weekend 2016
We spent Labor Day weekend in Sandpoint, Idaho. I had a big vintage antiques show there. I love the Funky Junk Antiques show because it is close...about an hour and a half away... and it is in my mom's town. Perfect.
Set-up was on a Thursday and Friday. Tyler, Kameron, and I drove up and brought a load of big furniture items up on Thursday night. Then we came up again on Friday and brought the kids with us for the weekend. We were in our usual 3 booth space. We really love this show because it is put on by our good friends Jennifer Wood and her husband Nathan. We always have such a great time! This year the theme was Lumberjack Style. It was honoring the rich forestry and timber history of the area. My grandparents, great-grandparents, and great-great grandparents were in the timber industry in this very area so it was extra special and significant to us.

I was so happy that my gray china hutch sold. It is one of my very favorite pieces. So cute and even lights up inside. A darling couple bought it. I am glad that it went to a good home. :)

We had a spectacular first day!! Great crowds and awesome buyers. Tyler, my mom, Stacey, and I celebrated by going for sushi at Shoga. Kelley and her boyfriend Chris had been paddle boarding on Lake Pend Oreille so they stopped by on their way back to Spokane and joined us. It was fantastic and so was the view!!
A perfect ending to a perfect day!
Funky Junk is a two day show so we were up early the next morning and ready to go again!! Day two is always a little calmer and there is more time to chat and visit with customers and friends.

It was great to catch up with our good friend Celeste the owner of the amazing Chaps restaurant in Spokane and now the new co-owner and co-editor of Flea Market Style magazine!! I am so excited for Celeste. She is truly one of our sweetest and dearest friends. She has gone out of her way for my family multiple times over the years and I just adore her. I am so excited for her and her new venture. Chaps is also celebrating it's 10th anniversary this month. It is my very favorite place to go to celebrate all of the special times in my family's life...baptisms, graduations, birthdays, anniversaries. We love it!
Flea Market Style is one of my favorite decor magazines and I am so excited that is now owned by Celeste and the renowned Ki Nassauer. The newly relaunched magazine will be on newstands in November. I can't wait!!

After tear down that night we went BACK to the same sushi restaurant on the water for another delicious meal. Yes, it was that good!! We had a wonderful and successful show!! Yay!!
On Labor Day morning we left my mom's house in Sandpoint and headed to Coeur d' Alene for a little Labor Day fun. We headed straight for the water. This time gorgeous Lake Coeur d' Alene. We live in such a beautiful area surrounded by so many lovely lakes. I love it here.

We hiked along the shore and enjoyed the dazzling view and weather.
Then we had ice cream for lunch. There is a new ice cream shop in Coeur d' Alene that just opened up that is called 1920 Soda Fountain. It is so cute!! It is decorated in vintage black and white...my personal fave...and has all the old soda fountain treats plus homemade ice cream. It was delicious and fun!! We can't wait to go back again.
Ailey had a specialty chocolate sundae. This was the kid-sized sundae.
Kameron had the regular-sized sundae. It was HUGE. He ordered the Huckleberry Chocolate sundae and it was amazing!!

I had the chocolate egg cream soda. Delish!! I had never had one before even though I had read about them in books and always wondered what they were like. They are an east coast thing and I had always wanted to try one. Yep, it was very good. I would get another even larger one next time. :) Tyler ordered a homemade waffle cone with two kinds of homemade ice cream: key lime and peach pecan. It was gone before I could get a picture of it. So clearly very tasty.
A good time was had by all!! Even Kam. Ha ha!!
We spent pretty much the entire day in Coeur d' Alene. It was so pretty. We were just trying to hold onto every last bit of summer. I know that so many people love fall. They can't wait for the leaves to change and to get out all their sweaters and boots and eat pumpkin spice everything. I am not one of them. I like fall but to me the changing of the leaves is just a harbinger of winter and a glaring sign that summer is over. After I adjust to that harsh reality I can settle in and enjoy it...like in October...but definitely not in September. The first sign of the changing of the leaves isn't a welcome sight. Summers are too short here but they are also too fabulous to want to spend them anywhere else. It's a catch 22.
We stopped for dinner on our way home at one of our favorite Asian grills and what did our children order...
Mac and Cheese!! All three of them. Sad.
