Dr. Seuss I am Not
It was brought to my attention over Thanksgiving by my Aunt Bonnie that there might be some confusion as to the pronunciation of the girl's name that we like...Bryn Katrin. After just reading the name from my blog she undoubtedly thought we had lost our minds and were on some crazy rhyming spree. The proper pronunciation is Br-inn KAY-trin rather than Br-inn Ka-trin like my Aunt Bonnie thought. For although we love a good rhyme...from time to time...in our spare time...while counting time...Dr. Seuss we are not. Although Tyler swears up and down that Bonnie has now jinxed him and that when blessing this baby he will say Br-inn Ka-trin...and what's worse is our last name can be made to rhyme as well.
Since this has come up before from people who only know my kids via this blog Reilly and Ailey don't rhyme either. Their names are: Rye-Lee and A-lee...which I guess do kind of rhyme but not as badly as Rye-lee and I-lee like some of you have thought. I hope that clarifies things. :)
That's the trouble with naming babies...people with opinions...not you Bonnie...but others. My favorite quote from Thanksgiving was when my Uncle Steve asked what name we liked he said: "You need to stop reading so many damn Welsh novels!!" (We had just been discussing Here Be Dragons.) I had to laugh.
That's right...I had to laugh...I bent in half...at his lame gaffe...I like giraffes.

Well if you must know, I said Cat-rin in my brain when I read it. It's pretty and different - where does it come from? Does it have any meaning or what? Don't you have a cousin Bryn? I also thought Ailey was I-ley the first time I read it and was going to call you and have an intervention if you were giving your girls rhyming names.
Also, I have long appreciated your rhyming ability, along with your mocking ability. And when the two are combined, it's magic.
Please don't keep me waiting on your thoughts about santa-hat wearing folks. I need to hear this.
I always love it when people immediately start coming up with all of the possible mean nicknames that go along with any given name.
You've done great so far, I can't imagine that you would pull out a Seussish name on us at this point. BTW, love the name.
Nice middle name! since it's a derivative of my name. But I don't understand how you are pronouncing it. ARe you saying KAY -trin as in HAY? When I lived in germany I was called Katerina as in Cat. And in french it was Katrine as in Ka-small a "uh" sound. I think your spelling is English/English. My bad, in not understanding ..would u email me about the name please, i'm curious.
