Halloween 2016

Halloween 2016

Halloween was pretty much a multi-day party and candy fest!! It was awesome. It all started on Friday night with some pumpkin carving.

There were only two pumpkin carvers this year. So crazy. It was also pouring rain but thankfully this part of our deck stays dry due to the huge blue spruces that loom over it. So all the pumpkin guts and mess stayed outside!

A little hot chocolate and some rubber gloves for Ailey and they were good to go!!

My two cute little pumpkin heads!!

Some costumes were tried and rejected. What?! The world's largest pug wasn't a go? Crazy.

Bryn kicked off all the festivities with her Halloween piano party on Friday. My friend, Jodi, is her teacher and Bryn loves Jodi and playing the piano. Ailey and Reilly both took piano lessons from Jodi too and always loved her Halloween parties.

Bryn wanted to be Heidi this year. I really love it when the kids pick characters from literature to be for Halloween. She did that last year too when she wanted to be Alice in Wonderland. Lucky for us we had an old ballet recital costume in the costume box that did the trick. Nice.

Then next out the door on Friday night was Ailey. She headed out to a Halloween Party with her friends. A boy/girl party!! She had a fantastic time. They ran around and did a video scavenger hunt and played all kinds of games. Her party didn't end until 11 pm. She was thrilled!!

Ailey was a blue ballerina. She didn't really have any big costume plans this year so...as Bryn was digging through the costume box...Ailey did too...and found this old ballet recital costume and was super happy with it. Hallelujah! I am thrilled that these crazy expensive dance costumes are getting more use! We have years and years of ballet costumes. Double score!!

Caden, Kameron, and Nick...(Tourist, Football Player, Clark Kent)
Saturday night Kameron headed out to his party with his friends. His costume was the easiest of all. Football player. He grabbed an old jersey and rubbed black under his eyes. Boom. A costume. Triple score!! I didn't pay a dime for Halloween costumes this year. I remember years of all four kids with very elaborate and very specific costumes. The ease of this year was unheard of and so appreciated.

Kam and his buds stopped in at a couple of parties that night. In case you were wondering...I was...Jackson was a kid from the 80s. Ha ha.

Sunday night we had our traditional family Halloween dinner. The kids pitched in and helped this year. It was delightful!!

We had all kinds of Halloween themed foods.

Ailey made these spider deviled eggs.

We had a fun pre-halloween celebration. Bryn really wanted to watch her first scary movie so after dinner we all watched the old classic Watcher in the Woods. The only one scared was mommy. Damn that cracking mirror!!

Finally the big day arrived...

Elle, Berkley, Bryn, and Parker

Kelley and I were both party moms again this year in Elle and Bryn's classroom. It's always fun...especially when you get to hang out with your sister. We were in charge of the Halloween craft. :) It was so weird not to divide my time between at least two different class parties and constantly be running back and forth!! I actually got to go on the Halloween parade through the school rather than waiting in the classroom for my other kids to parade through. It was so fun!!

Brynnie sharing about her costume. Her classmates asking questions and showing them her favorite Heidi book. (We have many versions/editions at our house!!) The one thing that Bryn was disappointed about was that I didn't find her a stuffed goat to carry. Ha ha!!

These two crack me up!

We didn't do trunk-or-treat at the church this year. It wasn't on actual Halloween and they made it so that only kids 8 years old and younger could participate. Lame. I love seeing all the kids in their costumes... even the teenage candy raiders... so I was bummed.  But it did give us a lot more time for regular trick-or-treating.

I walked past the bathroom and this sight stopped me in my tracks. I had to get a picture. Where did my baby go? Who is this 7-going-on-17-year-old in the bathroom doing her makeup?!?! Wasn't she just born??? Time needs to SLOW down!!

Our trick-or-treaters this year were Bryn, Ailey, and Ailey's good friend Cammi aka Katniss Everdeen. Tyler took this crew all over the place. Ailey and Cammi were very good to let Bryn hang out with them for most of the night and Bryn was in heaven spending time with the big girls!!

They got so much candy that they had to stop at home so that Bryn could empty out her bucket and start over again!! She filled that thing up to the brim twice! The big girls wisely used pillowcases for all of their loot.

Kameron ditched us and went over to Nick's house right after school. He and his friends said that they were going to *storm the town*...that ended up being stopping by all the places that the girls they liked were hanging out and silly stringing them. Boys...

I stayed home and handed out candy. We had a ton of trick-or-treaters this year. I also had a bunch of appetizers, drinks, and snacks all ready to go for when all the kids and friends began trickling back to the house.

I demanded Halloween pictures from my older kids. Gone are the days of cute pictures of the four of them in their Halloween costumes. *sniff* These are what I received:

 Glamorous Kitty Cat!

The football player took a turn...now a creepy football player.

Reilly was off with roommates and friends and went to a Haunted House that night. Livin' the life.

These girls were BEYOND thrilled with their FULL-SIZED CANDY BAR haul!! It was a good year!! They also collected over 3 lbs of candy EACH!! This ain't our first rodeo! It pays to have an older brother and sister (and parents) who know all the houses to hit!! They were in heaven weighing their candy bags, giggling, sorting, and trading their candy. They were sweet to let Kam raid their candy too.

That was a LATE NIGHT of cute kids, good friends, candy, appetizers, and scary movies. It was a GREAT Halloween!!
