He Read/She Read Book Review #2

This book has had RAVE reviews! It looked like such a fun book for Tyler and I to read together. This Sci-Fi thriller by John Marrs sounded intriguing and the premise sounded terrifying. Yes and Yes!!

This was an excellent read from start to finish. It is a fast-paced thriller with a lot of twists and turns right up to the end. I loved how the author was able to capture the news feeds of the future. It gave you a sense of how it would feel in those circumstances without it being too much of a stretch. This is a very well thought out story with a completely believable future of self driving cars. I highly recommend this book to anyone.

I LOVED this book!! It was SO GOOD! This was my second page-turner in a row. I love it when that happens. But unlike The Mother-in-Law which wasn't a twisty thriller this book definitely was!! Twist after twist after twist. This book is a near future science fiction story. The premise is so plausible and realistic and that is what made it especially scary.

This was my first John Marrs book and I can't wait to read more. Tyler is already reading another one of his books called The One. I highly recommend reading this book with a friend or a book club because you will NEED to discuss it...while reading it...and after. It was a crazy thrill ride! It was intense, suspenseful, unsettling, and entertaining. I could not put it down!

It also had some thought-provoking social commentary, as you are flying through the pages, on social media, reality TV, implicit bias, classism, racism, artificial intelligence, fake news, mob mentality, lack of personal responsibility, and accountability. In this novel social media plays a part in making moral judgements [of the passengers] without telling all of the facts. Sound familiar? We are already there. There are so many things to discuss such as the effects of technology on moral and ethical behavior. The entire story will spark so much conversation about life and how things aren't as black and white as they seem.

This story will stay with me for a long time...especially since self-driving cars are already here...even Level 5s are being tested in Arizona. Right now!! There was an advertisement during the Superbowl for a self-parking car. I used to think...Yes!...bring them on. Now...not so much. This would make a great movie!!

My Rating: Terrific book! Five Stars. Super fun! Read with a friend or a book club.
