Gratitude: Day 2

Day 2:

I am grateful for fasting. Hmmm...I never really thought that I would ever say that; but it is true. Particularly today. Today is Fast Sunday. I am a regular faster but it isn't something I would ever say that I was excited about or looking forward to. Not so today. Today our family joined other family members, friends, and wards to fast for a dear family member. My uncle received a stem cell transplant on Halloween and the donor was his brother...another sweet uncle. The days following the transplant are critical. This has been a time of worry, prayer, love, hope, and appreciation for our extended family. My aunt and uncle are far away from their home as my uncle receives cancer treatment and not really close to any family members. It is excruciating to be far away and not able to do something/anything to help those that I love. Today was a day that I could really do something tangible for all involved and I was looking forward to it. Of course I have fasted and prayed mightily many many times as my uncle has been on this cancer journey but today it felt different. I felt the power that comes from fasting for maybe the first time and I didn't feel so helpless. I know that there is great power in fasting and prayer. I was so grateful to join in with so many loved ones today and to have fasted and prayed for those I love and who mean so much to me.
