Christmas Cards
It's that time of year again...time for the sending and receiving of Christmas cards. I love it! It's one of my favorite things about Christmas. I love the anticipation of going to the mailbox and seeing it stuffed with cards and packages rather than bills and junk mail. It makes getting the mail just delightful. My kids fight over who is going to get the mail once December 1st rolls around.
Sending Christmas cards is a long standing family tradition. My Grandma E. has been the queen of Yuletide greetings. Two years ago I asked her how many Christmas cards she sent out each year. She said that she used to send out 250 cards a year. But that her number was shrinking due to all her old friends who were dying off. That particular year she was only sending out 200. Wow! That's a lot of Christmas cards! But she said that's what happens when you have lived for over 80 years...you to know a lot of people.
This tradition has been passed on to my mom and then onto me. I love going home to my mom's house and perusing all her Christmas cards from old family friends, relatives, and old college roommates. Whenever I go to her house I always ask right away "Who have you gotten Christmas cards from?" There are some families who are more interesting than others. I always like reading about the latest doings of the Dodds, the Nolans, Mary Jane, and the "oh so" handsome M. Antoinelli to name a few. Pictures are always preferable and when enclosed with a Christmas letter even better!!
Today the cards that I ordered online arrived and I am so happy with them! It was so painless to go to Shutterfly and design them, download the picture and have them sent right to my door. I ordered them on Sunday and they arrived today...sweet! I paid no extra charge to hurry them along...even better. Better yet I'm not doing a Christmas letter this year I just added the web address for my blog because I truly believe what my friend, Lucy, said...that "blogging is like a Christmas letter all year!" I did pick up a package of Christmas cards for those who I don't "wish" to be regular blog viewers but should still receive a Christmas card.
I am happy to report that we received our first Christmas card on December 3rd (I LOVE the early Christmas card) way to go Darren and Meghan!! Impressive. I guess I'd better get busy. I've got 50 to mail out this year.

We do a card every year, but I'm with you at 50. This year my little sis did mine for me on photo shop, ordered them and had them sent right to my house. Yeah! Can't wait to see them in person.

I usually strive for cards in the mailbox the day after Thanksgiving. This year I am melancholy for my old ways. Christmas cards are my absolute favorite part of Christmas but after losing all my addresses when our computer went down, I just can't get up the enthusiasm.
All this card talk has me motivated though. Very cute cards by the way. I think I remember that picture (or the like) from a wedding recap. It is definitely a winner!
Kristen you rock with the X-mas cards, it's always one that we look forward to every year. That is so funny about you wanting to read the ones your mom gets, it's like the wedding announcements at Mike and Bonnies that all the kids have to check out. See what everyone looks like and who they are marrying. :) Must run in the family. Hopefully we are on your list this year, can't wait!

We do a ton of cards. It is borderline nutty, how many we do. quite close to your grandmothers
The sad thing is that i don't LOVE doing them. We do the update, the picture and all of that, and I know people love to get them b/c they complain if we change it up at all. lol but i don't love to do them anymore.
Carlo I don't blame you not liking to do them if you are up in the 200's!! I pretty much max out at 50.

Can't wait to get one! We are looking at sending out about 100 this year. I wish I would have put my blog address . . .great idea. The update letter is always the worst part of the Christmas card--but the best part to receive . . . bummer how that works. I am lucky to just be getting the picture out this year!
Your cards look great!!!! My mom never did the Christmas card thing - but I love to do it and with a letter. I love catching up with all my friends and family.

Your cards turned out so pretty. I'm jealous that you already have yours. As you know my husband is a graphic designer and always has these grand plans for a Christmas card, and never gets them done in time. Maybe this year....
I love sending/receiving Christmas cards and I completely relate what you said about reading the cards that my parents receive. I love to take an hour and browse through their cards and catch up on all their old friends. My ward members here send Christmas cards to people in the ward. I have gotten 2 so far and I think it is weird. I see them twice a week. Maybe that's just me. They weren't on my list and I can't decide to send a card or stick with the treat that I was originally planning. Sorry this is long.

I have no card idea or card yet. I know! No picture, no letter (do you think I can simply say, "If you want to know...read my blog!"). Oh, the tick tock is sounding loudly in my head but, like most everyone, the cards coming are my favorite thing about the traditions of the season, and I feel the need to reciprocate.
And, by the way, totally cute cards. Easy to do with such good looking subjects:)
We totally do Christmas cards. However, I'm not very prompt. Definitely not even close to Kelly A's impressive post-Thanksgiving goal. Last year my cards went out the first week of February. This year my goal is December anything. I only send out 50 for budget reasons, so I have to rotate friends, yes one year, no the next year. But it is definitely one of my very favorite Christmas traditions.
