August: Things I Am Loving

August: Things I Am Loving

1.) Boudoir Chairs

My Grandma McKinnon always had what she called her "boudoir chair" in her bedroom. I loved to sit in it...a plushy and scooped upholstered chair that swiveled...and chat with her while she made her bed and got ready for the day. Over the years I have had a boudoir chair in our room off and on. It's perfect for reading in or chatting with Tyler. Unfortunately we haven't had one for the last few years ever since the last time we redid our bedroom. I was always on the hunt for the perfect chair but never found just what I wanted. When we redid our room this month finding an upholstered boudoir chair was at the top of my to-do list. I found the perfect one. I am loving this chair so much!!

2.) Cereal for Dinner

August was such a crazy busy month and we were rarely if ever at home. When we were home we were always low on groceries and low on motivation to go buy some. Especially since we would just be out at the lake again a few days later. It was hotter than heck in August and my will to cook went right out of the window. We even have central a/c and I still have no desire to eat anything that was remotely hot. We had many nights of cold cereal for dinner. My kids were actually quite pleased because they could usually con me into getting sugary cereals. I am a strictly cheerios and rice krispies mom. But... in order to cajole them into eating cereal... I usually relented with the two above. They are the current family favorites.

3.) Hummingbirds

I finally got a hummingbird feeder! Tyler and Kam hung it up for me, at great peril, right outside one of our bedroom windows.  I have seriously loved watching the hummingbirds. I know...I hear it... I sound like an 80 year old woman. But I really do love them!! They remind me of my Grandma Ellersick and her mother my Grandma Miley. They also loved hummingbirds and had hummingbird feeders. This summer I actually found a hummingbird nest and it was thrilling!! It was second only to the time that a hummingbird hit the window at the lake several years ago and I got to actually hold one. Thank goodness it was only stunned and happily flew away a few moments later.

4.) Cotton Candy Macarons

I am a real macaron fan. I've mentioned this a time or million. I also understand that macarons are somewhat of an acquired taste. Not everyone is besotted with them like I am. That's okay because I don't like other cookies. Truly. I'll eat a hot chocolate chip cookie once in awhile and I do enjoy no bakes and rice krispie treats but that is it. Macarons, on the other hand, I love. Especially passion fruit ones... and most especially... the ones from my favorite french bakery in Portland. I now have a second favorite flavor that combines my other love...cotton candy. There is a company here in Spokane that makes cotton candy macarons and they are delicious. This is quite surprising since I hate nearly everything that purports to be cotton candy flavored. They never taste like cotton candy!! Always false advertising!! A treat that does TRULY taste like delicious cotton candy is the Cotton Candy Blizzard from DQ. But now... I can add the cotton candy macarons from Huckleberry's.

5.) Karaoke

As I mentioned in my last post...there was A LOT of karaokeing going on at the lake! We had a great time!! My sister-in-law Meki and I have *perfected* three songs that we sing together! The Dixie Chicks Landslide may be our greatest performance of all time!! Ha ha!! In fact...our karaoke machine with its multiple microphones (Thanks Aunt Lori!!) will be coming to the Primary Program After Party for a little primary song karaoke!! There is an awesome app for that! Our senior primary kids are going to LOVE it!! They all want to sing solos and when my friend Annie (our music leader) does her "Solos for Rollos" they literally lose their minds!!
