Happy Father's Day!!

Here's to the best three dads I have ever known:

1.) Tyler (I really hope our kids realize how LUCKY they are!!)

I was lucky enough to have TWO absolutely amazing grandpas. Both set the standard of what it means to be an honorable man, husband and father. Both worked hard and took good care of their families. They were strong members of the Church and honored their priesthood. They were honest and trustworthy in all their dealings and had the respect of all who knew them. Both of these men stepped up and filled in for all the father/daughter special moments for me. I am profoundly grateful.

Onto Father's Day 2007...Father's Day isn't the easiest holiday to plan for. Tyler never can think of something he would like to do to celebrate. It is like pulling teeth to get him to come up with something. The kids wanted to serve him breakfast in bed...which we did...although it required us telling him to get back in bed!!

Tyler told me that he wanted to have a picnic on Father's Day. Ok...sounds easy enough. He picked the picnic menu (odd though it was) and all systems were go...except for the CONSTANT rain around here which is getting on my freaking nerves!! By the time we got out of church it was a downpour. Onto plan b...the kids wanted to have the picnic in our tent trailer...we couldn't have it on our deck or anywhere else due to the infernal rain! We had discussed going camping for Father's Day but due to the weather, church obligations, and two flat tent trailer tires we weren't going anywhere. But Tyler popped up the trailer in our driveway and we had our picnic inside while the rain was pitter-pattering on the roof. The kids and Tyler thought it was the BEST time ever and pretty much hung out in it all afternoon.

Tyler and I were laughing at our menu for the day...we have changed a lot since Tyler's first years of fatherhood and early Father's Day celebrations which included lots of MEAT! Steaks, ribs, chicken, bratwurst, burgers, hot dogs etc. This was the first year I asked him if he wanted to grill steaks and he said NO. His meal of choice was 100% vegetarian...a delicious 3 bean salad with edamame, black beans, and lots of other good stuff, hummus (pretty much his favorite snack food), crackers, gourmet cheeses, fruit (which I forgot to bring out), and three...yes count them THREE kinds of pudding!! Crazy meal I know...but it was his choice!


Thursday I found some of the best thrift store junk that I have seen in a LONG TIME...which is good because we have a Sisters Creed sale coming up in July and I need to get going on some projects. For my sisters benefit and jealousy I have posted all my loot! :)




In closer detail:



Two great cream-colored serving dishes. I am keeping those for myself.




A big glass urn. I am also keeping this for myself. I put it in my kitchen to hold all my wooden spoons etc. I love it!

One awesome hobnail lamp in perfect working order. I am going to fix it up and make a cool shade to go with it. I will probably sell it even though I am REALLY tempted to keep if for the girls' room.

One fantastic cake tin...in perfect condition. My mom, sisters and I are CRAZY for cake tins....we collect them. Especially the ones from the 50's. My mom has a beautiful pink one that I lust after, a fabulous pale green one and an amazing red,white and blue one.




A gorgeous candy dish...just like my grandma's...I have hers on display in my house.

Great pink and white gingham lampshade that I am going to redo with some awesome trim.

This great stitched "I am a child of God" sampler which going up on the wall in the girls' room.

Funky crystal beaded candle stick...not old...but cool.

AND...the piece de la resistance...which I haven't taken a picture of yet...the FIND of the day...a secretary desk thing...I should really figure out what they are called...but I am too tired and my three pudding buzz has worn off! It sort of looks like a chest of drawers...it has four drawers...and then you can pull the top down and it is a little desk with all the little cubbies inside...pretty good condition. Needs a little shoring up but it is DARLING! I am going to revamp it and make it FABULOUS...I got it for FREE!! (It was sitting on the side of the road with a bunch of other stuff and a sign that said "free"!) I can't decide if I want to sell it or keep it. It would make such a cute little homework/writing desk for Reilly. Such is the dilemma of Sisters Creed...we want to keep all of our own stuff and buy each other's stuff. The first rule of Sisters Creed is only buy/make things that YOU like so that if it doesn't sell you can KEEP IT! It's a win/win situation.

I would like to thank Kristy for her cute gumball idea which I shamelessly copied but not nearly as creatively. I found a big jar of gumballs at Wal-Mart which I wrapped in a ton of clear cellophane and tied with a big bow. I made a card that said "Thank you for chew-sing to teach this year". I felt it was pretty appropriate in her case...she was the school librarian for the past few years but kept up with her teaching credentials. Two weeks into this school year the principal asked her if she would teach a 3rd/4th grade combo class...which was how Reilly got into the school...Kameron was already accepted...and so Reilly transferred the 2nd week of the school year. She was a nice enough teacher but her personality SERIOUSLY bugged...so it was gumballs for her! Kameron's AMAZING Mrs. Smith who I started crying while thanking her for being such a wonderful teacher...embarrassing...got a much better gift.

SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER!! SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER!! (I am singing Alice Cooper REALLY loud right now). I made my kids sing Alice Cooper REALLY loud too (for my own amusement) in order to get some ice cream from Baskin Robbins on the last day of school after our picnic at the park with friends.
